On Monday, 9th June 2025, our computing students were treated to an insightful professional talk from industry leader, Phoenix Software. The session, organised as a key component of the Professional Skills in Computing Module, provided a fantastic opportunity to bring real-world context into the classroom.

An expert team from Phoenix delivered a brilliant session, exploring how various professional disciplines align and function within a modern tech company. The students gained valuable knowledge on:

  • Corporate Responsibility from Jennifer Clewley

  • Company Culture from Emma Taylor

  • Project Management from Lucy Garner

  • Communications from Ben Murden

The talk gave students a practical understanding of the professional ethics, standards, and practices that will shape their future careers.

The success of such an event is always a collaborative effort. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the brilliant delivery team from Phoenix for sharing their time and expertise.

A special thank you is also due to our Dean, Andrew Johnson, for his continued support of these initiatives. We also wish to thank my colleagues in Computing, Dr Ikiomoye Emmanuel, Dr Cain Evans, and Dan Ali, alongside our Employability Officer, Sachin Mistry, for their crucial roles in organising and ensuring the success of the day.

This event is one of many industrial engagements we are planning for our computing students, designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice and prepare them for a successful future in the tech industry.
